Sunday 20th of April Sprint Series- Biathlon

wake up about 6am in the morning, change into my tights and make myself a milo. i woke up Mrs as she is coming along to my "training" session today. today is kind of a first timer for me, i am doing my first competitive Swim- run event at Sentosa.

I remember, my first competitive run event with the sgrunners is also at the same place. NB real run, where i first meet the big group of runner. anyhow it must be at least 2 years ago when i come back again.

the car park is easy to spot, as not much ppl is there when we arrival. park the car, I quickly when to the toilet to mark my "spot" keke went back to the car, change on the top and proceed to the body marking area and took my time chip. less than 15 mins, all was done. I went over to the transition area.

put up my swim cap, i decided to do my "first" sea drip before the actual event. the water is warm and calm but dirty. haha.

waited for a while on the beach with Joanne, i would see many other doing the drip in the sea also. i went for a few also. when the announcement starts, we gather at the start point, where i meet up with "Shut" he is in a red 2 pcs. we chatted for a while and decided to stay at the back of the pack. in a minutes, the race begin;

swim;

running into the water, I started to front crawl, when into the first 50m, i was kicked first time, was`t a bad one, but enough for me to drink some sea water. i decided to change to breast stroke, seeing there is at least a line form in front of me, no choice to over take, i had to follow. at about 300m, the line begin to break up, i take this chance to speed up and over take some and i notice some behind, there are other trying the same stunts. i was kenna kicked, pulled and cut in many time. well, i did also try to give some back to them as well.

reaching the u turn, i make my the round trip back. this time round was much better. i think i am in the last 30% of the pack. but this time, i am battling with the wave. ended the swim leg, see my time. : 23mins.

Run;

run over to the transition area. i decided not to wear my sock for the run, thinking it is just a 5km sprint. i put on the shoe, race belt and sprint off. Into the first 800m, i took my first drinks and water over my head. it felt refresh and good. i try to maintain a sub 6 mins pace in the first part, knowing i should be able to do a negative spilt when i am coming back. i overtook a few of the runners and u turn, time 40mins (with swim time)

I pick up the pace and try to over take more runners, i guess i am doing a 5mins paces while making way back. another 2.5km. while into my last 1.2km run, i saw "shut" i signal to him to keep on moving. while i try to pace up faster. taking water and pouring on my head to keep the engine cool. sprinting back with a runner in the end. I reached the end point. 51mins (include swim time) run time: 25mins.

took off my time chip, my foot is in blister at different parts. aiyoh.. pain. took the medal, waited a while for the transition gate to open. i quickly went pick up my stuff and seated, took off my shoe and into slippery. waited a while for shut to returned, we went and took a shower to washed off the sea water. and bi dded farewell. see you in the other race, pal. Good to have at least a friend you know in a race. at least to encourage each other and it cut down the boredom.

meet up my another friend of mine, we took some lunch and went over to the beach and do some swim and tanning. since we are there, let spent sometime there, treat it like a holiday. I guess, i must had done another 1km swim and tan like cooked lobsters.

organisation for sprint series is good. i guess, with the small packs of participant, it is easier to manage. i had my taste of open water swims, not too bad, but noted, next time, i am not going into the middle. haha...

good training session for me, looking forward to the Duathlon Series.
