alarm sounded at 7am, not willing to wait for but today is my first triathlon OD distance events. woke up and make myself a kopi, checking if i got everything i need for the race.
leave the house alone at about 745am, wifey not planning to come, so let her sleep more.
reached ECP, I was trying to find a parking place. I can imagine most of the CP will be full, especially those near the event location. I quickly got myself a cp near starbucks, got my barang off and do a slow cycle to the place. walking thru the marked crossing point, the elite race had already started. I could see them zooming pass fast, very close to each other, almost neck to neck. I decided to walk to the transition pt, and park my bike and get ready. on the way i notice my tyres is soft, luckily there were a bike maintenance set up by the side. got my tyres pumped and body mark out. while walking back, felt a little uncomfortable my the groin area.
went back to the transition pt, i saw LT.. by the side. only expecting to see him. still felt a little uncomfortable, i looked down and saw the "unforeseen" my CWX tights got a bad tear. yeah, a tear.. the most unforseen thing that had happened, in a race events. what a murphy law.
no choice, have to "turn out" wifey at home to bring me a extra one. well, count myself lucky, that i did not find out when i am in the "swim start" but 2 hour before. this is going to be a long day! I would rather DNS!
waited for a while, Tao, Fennel came. we went to have brunch and went over to the swim area and see others. saw, Aerosolcan and Sotong by the side supporting
swim
distance 1500m
time: 48mins
first laps of the swim, the waves is the killer. you could find yourself stationary most of the time and the bouncy seems so far. front crawl is a killer, have to switch to breast stroke and sometime you have to dive into the wave. wel, despite that, i enjoyed myself. haha. out of the sea, 22mins.
second laps, not much ppl going to the water, so it is easier to swim front crawl. but the wave is still not forgiving. in fact, it got worst. i could feel the wave is bigger and more frequent. most of the time, i had to dive into the wave but when coming out, another wave comes in. got a few mouthful of sea water, but nothing serious. you could see the stronger swimmers and the weak one struggling. panics will comes especially when you are in the middle of the waves. got a few hits from other swimmers.
finish the second laps, 27mins
run to the transition and change to running shoes. took my time and lots of drinks. before running out with the bike.
10mins transition.
bike
distance: 40km
time: 1hr 05mins.
started out the bike, my computer is not working. so no way to see what the speed. no choice, have to feel lor. started out with the smaller cranks, keeping in mind the distance and dun wan to kill myself in the bike leg.
first laps finish in 15mins. passing thru many others, i know i am in good time. second laps, still keeping the crank small, i continue to speed fast and finishing the laps in sub 15mins.
on the third and fouth laps, i pulled up the big cranks and starts pushing. finish the bike leg with a blessing of shower.
during the bike leg, saw a bike crash infront of me. luckily i managed to avoid it. see a puncture long the road. luckily it does not happen to me :P
run
distance: 10km
time: 70mins.
into the transition, i took my time and more drinks. slow jog into the run leg, i passed by many other runners. not sure of my speed, i continue to run and grabed as much H20 as i can and cold drinks pouring over my head. the shower does not last for long, the sun comes out faster!
into the first 5km laps
Time: 30mins.
along the way, saw aerosolscan. he is struggling with a cramps. i signal to him, he told me to carry on running. while reaching the first u turn, he catches up and over took me.
second laps 5km
time: 40mins
after the u turn, my quads starter to have some cramps. i decided to stop at the power gel area and walked. while the quads is cramping up, i knew i would be losing time. i started to jog and begin to enjoy the run. passing some walker and stop at every drink station. took a drink and enjoy the cool water over the head.
while reaching the final 200m into the end, sotong over took me. I begin to chase him and finish just behind him.
overall a well organise event. enough water points, clear instruction and good supports. not a good time i had, knowing i am under trained for this event. i still completed it, treating it like a training for coming HIM at Desaru. I am a Triathele! :)
