today is the day of the Singapore 70.3 Ironman. went off to the site at around 530am, after much loitering at home. reached the site, went to the body marking area first and go into transition to prepare for the day.
7am, the swim site is opened, I went to the water and "test" the temperature. very cold. meet up with LT, he is helping in the water safety. while waiting for my turn to starts, chatted with aaron and roonz. saw BBM in the mist.
swim starts, nothing much to comment, just that today, i got kicked, stretched, blocked, crawl over, many time in the swim. Drink alot of sea water, felt like puking. (i remember xiao di experience in desaru) finish the first loops, 30mins, and second about 30mins. total time: 60mins.
bike route. it was a 3 loops of 30km each in the highway, u turning close to pasi panjang, i think. when starting out, my bike started to give out funny noise. the gear is rough, not smooth at all. how come like this? biking up the first loops, the gear is really making funny noises so loud that the other rider passing me, "head shaking"
oh man, i am going to have a hard time in this bike leg. during the whole bike leg, the bike is giving out noises, i had a thought of giving up. but nevertheless, i keep going. I could not even go into a glide and aerobar. only on the down hills. on the last lap, saw sotong by the side. think he got some problem on the bike
finished the bike leg, total time: 4hour 30mins.
21km Run.
after the gruesome bike ride, the start of the run, i got into cramps. yeah, expected la and i saw "Sanjit" wah how come he is so fast? aiya, i just continue. finish the first laps, really slow. along the way, stop at water pt and walk break. in my second laps, roonz and aaron was already into the their final one. manage to catch up with Sanjit on the second laps and finally finish this hot, lousy day in 7hr and 40mins. Finished and pose at the finishing line with a big smile and a victory sign! oh well, at least i completed it in one piece. Sotong could not complete the events, due to break down of the bike, wasted.
people i met and give me encouragement and friendship during the events. (in no order of merit)
IMD, Yue Hua, Tao, Chen Ping, Fennel, Cokiee, Henry. thanks guys.
after thoughts
~~~~~~~~~~
world class logistic, good swim loops, bike route (longer hills than desaru, strong head winds in the highway) but the run route is good, with more than enough water and Aids station. I guess, in every technical race, the equipment is the most important aspect that either you can do well or suffer, for this, I will keep it in mind today lesson.
Buay also got some problem and complete in around 7hr +, my opinion, this is not a tough race, after having done Desaru ( this actually make me thinks that Desaru is not tough at all) :P just suay la. asked me again if i would do this again... (if the price is right + better goodie bag :( btw, how come the finisher tee look so much like the finisher tee from AHM
when I picked up the bike, i notice that the chain is rusty, luckily it did not break in the mist of the bike leg. heng huh! huat har!
