Are you a Strawberry?

Have you ever tried to understand why some people could stayed in a company for more then 20 years? Were they motivated by money? power? what was it that make these people stay? This must be one of the greatest mysteries that a modern HR professional had tried to solve, but failed.

Be it an individual motivation or a Team sense of belonging. Psychologically what make this person ticks? A friend that i knew, was working oversea for the last 3-5 years and recently she came back to Singapore for a reason we were not clear. Having tried out a few other jobs in Singapore, each duration not more then 3 months. She is calling it quit for the current one again.

Is this what they called the "strawberry generation" People belonged to this generation were trend to be fragile when facing certain pressure. The weakness in lack of stress management, money management and lack of planning. They are generally enjoyed their stayed at home, comfortable and being well protected. (this might not be applicable for my friend in the past, but i am not so sure now)

These strawberry generation thinks that with their high education, the expectation on Jobs employment were also different. They expect high paying jobs and often over confident about their opinions, sometime, they seem to be self centred. Economically, these strawberry generation are not contributing enough and are probably part of the reason for the recent recession. They lack the foresight to see the realistic world, in which, they often thinks that everything should come in a nice particular orders, if these situation does not come in their prefer ways, these strawberry generation most often cannot handle it and therefore, find the quickest way out.

I have no grudge on these strawberry generation and their way of life and how they feel as an individual. A "self centred" generation were cause by a chain of problem; the Society- Family-Friends? which implicated these behavioural trait, I am not a psychiatric or a subject matter expert, but in my opinion, this is going to be a hard battle for the leaders and managers in the future.

The world does not evolve only for you, we are just a part of the game play, some said like a pinch of sand. Suddenly, i think sociology can be rather interesting and should be part of the our academy and a compulsory subject.
