Wet swimming? or swimming to get wet?
This morning 7 of the brave Toos decided to prove the theory of wet swimming in the open swim. Before reaching Sentosa, I decided to buy some hot drinks to warm up the stomach before the cold swim.
We reached the car park at about 8am, while the weather was still drizzling, we took our coffee and hide in the car. soon after xz reached the cp, we proceed to do our first open sea swim for some of the Toos. The water, this morning was actually quite clean but the wave was slightly high, probably because of the rain.
first lap, 4 of us guys, make across the lagoon without much happening except yankee felt a cramp in the middle. we took a quick rest and press on to complete the first lap. Did another lap back to the start point and meet up with the rest in the middle of the lap. while we decided to swim across to the other side of the island about 100m away. The water was calmer now while we did some lap to and fro to the island and did a relax swim back to the start point.
Beside the normal swim drills in the pool, the open swim provides the fear of "not able to touch the floor", drinking of "salted water", fighting the waves, motion sickness and unable to do sighting. These training are important and crucial to have, if you had decide to do a open water related events in the future, its aim give you confidence at the open sea.
We should do more of it and probably incorpoate some run in the future.
Anyhow, It was a nice recovery swim for those who finished the marathon and a relax workout for me.
I heard that most of the Too did a sub 5hours marathon this time round. well done and congrats!
